7 Ways to Protect Your Children from Health Diseases

7 Ways to Protect Your Children from Health Diseases

Like most parents, you probably want your children to grow up healthy and strong, free from harmful diseases that can be prevented by simple vaccinations or lifestyle changes. But with so much conflicting information out there about childhood health — some of it inaccurate, outdated, or even dangerous — it can be hard to know what the facts are and how to keep your kids healthy. Here are seven ways to protect your children from the top health diseases plaguing today’s children in America today.

1) Get your children vaccinated

I’m not going to get into a debate about vaccinations, but suffice it to say that getting your children vaccinated is one of the most important things you can do for their health. Of course, there are risks involved, and only your doctor can determine whether vaccinations are appropriate in any given situation. But if your kids haven’t been vaccinated yet, I strongly urge you to consider it before they become adolescents and risk catching something far more serious than chicken pox.

2) Keep your children hydrated

If you want to protect your children, make sure they stay hydrated with healthy fluids. A simple glass of water each day will help them stay properly hydrated and enable their bodies’ natural process of flushing out toxins more effectively. 3) Introduce good hygiene habits at an early age

Good hygiene habits—washing hands with soap, brushing teeth after meals, etc.—can help prevent and reduce diseases. Health care is also an important factor in protecting your children’s health. It can be very expensive for parents, but if you have a low income or a high family size, you might qualify for health care assistance. This could be offered through government social services or by various insurance companies (such as Star Health Insurance ).

4) Provide exercise and play opportunities

Exercise is a great way for children to relieve stress, so try taking them on walks or playing games that incorporate exercise. Make sure you keep your kids’ activities age-appropriate; even if you can play football with them at home, it’s not necessary for children under 10. And be careful about how much time they spend in front of screens – whether that’s TV, video games or computer/tablet time. This can take away from their physical activity and cause health problems in later years.

5) Limit screen time (TV, tablets, computers etc.)

Excessive screen time is linked with obesity and numerous health issues in children. The best thing you can do for your child’s health is limit their time on TV, tablets, computers etc. Try to discourage electronic games unless it’s a once-in-awhile treat.

6) Encourage eating fruits and vegetables

A well-balanced diet consisting of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and protein will also protect your children from health diseases. Discuss with your children about incorporating more fresh produce into their diets as it helps them maintain a healthy weight. Keep in mind that if you provide nutritious snacks at home, such as fruit cups or carrot sticks, your children will be more likely to eat them rather than junk food while they’re on-the-go.

7) Establish bedtime routines for children

Establishing a bedtime routine is key to helping children fall asleep easily. This simple process can take as little as 5 minutes and will help your child wind down for sleep. Having a set routine also gives you an opportunity to check in with your children and ask about their day.
